This Weekend With Kids

Have you spent the whole week asking, "How can March be over already?" "Where did March go?" "What happened to March?"

But seriously.

How can March be over already? When you wake up on Sunday morning, it's going to be April. Already.

This weekend, we're expecting a visit from my parents and one of my grandmothers. I'm really looking forward to seeing them. Alice doesn't know they're coming yet - but  I know she's going to be thrilled to have so much attention. It's a little trickier to get around as a party of six than as one of three, but there are a few fun Easter-themed activities scheduled over the next couple of days that just might be worth the effort:

Easter Run & Fun
The eighth-annual Easter 5K run/walk starts at 8 a.m. at Lodi Lake (1101 Turner Road, in Lodi), rain or shine. A quarter-mile kids fun run for children 10 and younger starts at 9:15. The course is mostly flat and paved, and runs around the lake and through a nature area. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis on race day, so arrive early if you haven't already signed up. It's $25 for the 5K and $5 for the fun run, with proceeds benefitting Lodi Salvation Army's Hope Harbor Family Service Center. At the end of the race, stick around for:

Pancake Breakfast and Easter Carnival
At the end of the race, follow the crowd to Bear Creek Community Church. For $5, breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, plus bacon or sausage, eggs, orange juice and coffee. The fee includes entrance to the Easter carnival, featuring games, crafts and an Easter egg hunt for kids 5 and younger. 9 to 11:30 a.m. at 11171 N. Lower Sacramento Road in Lodi.

Easter at Lincoln Center
Bring your camera to Campbell's where the Easter Bunny will be posing for pictures from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Kids will receive an Easter activity book and a bookmark. Several other stores are offering promotions: Sassy Pants boutique will be passing out Easter eggs. At Zuesters, pick up a free treat and a sticker. At Best Wishes, you can decorate a frame for your bunny photo, and at Along the Way, get a free Easter pencil and stickers. 374 Lincoln Center in Stockton.

Fantasy Comes Alive
Storybook characters such as giants and wizards, witches and princesses come to life in a high-energy musical at Tracy's Grand Theatre Center for the Arts. The interactive show will be followed by an Easter egg hunt. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children. 2 p.m. Saturday at 715 Central Ave. in Tracy.
