When I told Alice last week that we were going to the park to listen to some music, she said, "And see animals?"
"Oh, sure," I told her. "I bet we'll see lots of dogs."
"No," she said. "Lions."
I'd really hate for anyone to be disappointed, so I feel I need to break this to you: There aren't any lions at Concerts in the Park.
But a weekly excuse for a picnic? I'm in.
The annual summer concert series opened last week. We brought a blanket and an easy dinner - cold chicken, fresh fruit and some brownies.
The series lasts through August 22, with concerts held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays at Victory Park. Playing tonight is the Valley Concert Band. (Find a weekly lineup here).
