This Weekend With Kids

christmas pizza

That, friends, is a Christmas pizza.

It's a little hard to tell in the picture, but the crust is marbled red and green - very festive. We've also tried rolling out the dough in the shape of a Christmas tree.

Christmas pizzas were a part of my husband's childhood holidays. (And a clever idea by his parents, don't you think? Pizza is such an easy, pleasing dinner at what tends to be an exhausting time of year). I think it's so much fun to be making them now with our own family.

I love traditions. The quirky ones especially. (Have any you'd care to share?)

Anyway, that's what we'll be up to this weekend. But there's lots more going on.

Star Tours
The Stockton Astronomical Society hosts its monthly star party in the Shima parking lot at San Joaquin Delta College. The program is free, telescopes are available, and volunteers are on hand to help identify planets, constellations and other night sights. The event is subject to cancelation, though, in case of overcast skies, so be wary. This month, look for the moon, Jupiter, Venus and the Pleiades Cluster. From 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday.

Stockton Figure Skating Club Benefit Show
If she were just a touch older, I think Alice would love to see this: Proceeds from this event, called "Tis the Season to Say Thanks," will benefit a number of local nonprofit organizations. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children and seniors. Purchase at the Stockton Arena Box Office. Doors open 1 p.m. and the show starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Arena.

A Showbiz Christmas
This musical-comedy variety show at That's Showbiz, 1744 Pacific Ave., is in its last weekend. Limited seating is available for Sunday's 2 p.m. show. Doors open at 1:30 p.m, and admission ($20 for adults and $12 for students and children) includes light refreshments. (P.S. Here's a fun review). For information, call (209) 938-0447.

Santa at Lincoln Center
In case you've still got some shopping to do - and don't mind making it a family affair - Santa will be at Lincoln Center from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Weather permitting, your kiddos can also enjoy train and carriage rides from 1 to 3 p.m. At Pacific Avenue and Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton.
