This Weekend With Kids
Around here, we're working on reaching and grabbing and rolling over.
Are you exhausted just thinking about it?
Gosh, there's so much going on this weekend - all of it a fun. But whatever you decide, stay cool and hydrated, friends. It's going to be awfully hot. (By the way, the Public Health Department has posted this resource page on extreme heat. Take a look).
Summer Street Fair
From 3 to 8 p.m. Fridays until Aug. 9, San Joaquin Delta College hosts its Summer Street Fair, featuring live music, classic cars, food and children's activities. Proceeds benefit the Passport to College program. In the L3 parking lot.
Stockton-Con Movie Night
Stockton's comic-book convention hosts a special screening of "Raiders of the Lost Ark at 7 p.m. Friday at Empire Theatre on Pacific Ave. (P.S. the movie features a shot of University of the Pacific! Look out for it). Tickets are $7 at the door. After the show, take your stub to Yogurt My Way for a special discount.
Lodi Obon Bazaar
The annual celebration at Buddhist Church of Lodi features Japanese food, and cultural displays and demonstrations. (There's also a health fair, church tour and activities for kids). Festivities run from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Obon is traditionally a time for families to reunite and honor the spirits of their ancestors.
DeltaFusion
This one is tough to explain. You'll just have to trust me that it's super neat. The story of the region's natural and cultural heritage is told through music, pageantry - and giant puppets. Starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, performers parade around Victory Park before gathering next to the Haggin Museum for the pageant. The festival lasts until 1 p.m. and also features performances from various ethnic arts ensembles.
